Key moments:

  • Rear of Oscar’s McLaren damaged at the start of the GP after taking a hit from a car involved in the collision behind him
  • Mechanics did a great job to repair the car during the subsequent red flag period but at the restart, he was still one lap down
  • No further safety car period occurred that would have allowed him to get back on the same lap as most of the field
  • Despite some good battles, he finished just outside the points during the final sprint race of the season on Saturday
  • Oscar remains 9th in the drivers’ standings going into the season’s final races in Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi

The race through OP’s visor

“It was a shame that my race was effectively over at the first corner due to what went on behind me. It was always going to be a long afternoon after that moment.

Huge thanks to the team who managed to get me out and back into the race so quickly during the red flag stoppage. Amazing work from everyone.

Ultimately, we didn’t get another safety car period to recover the lap we needed but it was still vital for me to get that race distance in at a track that I’ve never driven at before.”
