Oscar is heading to the United States for the second time this season after his trip to Miami in early May and before F1 returns for the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix in mid-November. Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the 2023 US GP.
- Oscar tested at the Circuit of The Americas in April 2022 in old F1 machinery but has never raced in the Lone Star State
- The 5.513km anti-clockwise circuit features 20 corners (11 left-handers, nine right-handers)
- It is one of only nine anti-clockwise tracks on the 2023 F1 calendar: Baku, Singapore, Abu Dhabi, Miami, Imola, Jeddah, Brazil, Las Vegas and COTA
- Austin was the tenth different US circuit to hold an F1 World Championship round but was the first purpose-built track for Formula 1 to race at
- COTA was introduced to the F1 calendar in 2012, hosting the first US GP since 2007 at Indianapolis
- Sunday’s race will be the 52nd running of the United States Grand Prix
On racing at Austin…
“It’s a track that flows really nicely and has some cool sections that are similar to other tracks on the calendar. It’s thrown up some great racing in the past and with the wide turns, it certainly lends itself to encouraging overtaking opportunities.
There are some big elevation changes and also a few different overtaking lines, so it is going to be an interesting challenge.”
On the atmosphere…
“I can’t wait to race in Austin for the first time. The atmosphere and energy at the track and around the city look amazing and it is such a unique event.
I’ve had some tremendous support from so many fans in the US during my debut season and it means so much.”
On recent results…
“It’s been great to score back-to-back grand prix podiums and win the sprint race in Qatar and it’s nice to have that momentum behind me.Back to News
I’ve never raced at COTA before so this will be another weekend of learning for me and more experience in the bank. Hopefully, we can come away with some more strong points.”
