After the four-week summer break, F1 heads to the Netherlands for the 13th round of the World Championship. Here’s your OP lowdown before the track action all gets going again…

  • Zandvoort is the fourth track of the season that Oscar has never raced at previously following Melbourne, Miami and Montréal
  • Sunday’s race will comprise of 72 laps of the 14-turn 4.259km track (10 right-handers, 4 left-handers)
  • At 18 degrees, the angle of the circuit at the final corner is twice that found at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway
  • The Dutch Grand Prix was first held as part of the F1 World Championship in 1952
  • Before it returned to the F1 calendar in 2021, the Dutch GP was last held in 1985 – a 36-year break
  • The race starts at 14:00 local time in the Netherlands, meaning the action will get going at 23:00 back in Oscar’s hometown of Melbourne
  • As the crow flies, there are just 234 miles between McLaren’s Woking base and Circuit Zandvoort on the North Sea coastline in Holland

On the resumption of racing…

“I loved the first half of my debut season and it didn’t take me long after Spa before I was missing racing. I can’t wait to get back to it and attack the remaining 10 races, starting with Zandvoort.

We’ve got two European races back-to-back before the flyaways so it’s a great feeling to be getting back under way.”

On Circuit Zandvoort…

“It’s an old-school track which is very quick and has plenty of undulation and sweeping corners. The banked corners allow for different racing lines and each of the sectors flows nicely onto the next.

It will also be a good test for us drivers as overtaking seems pretty difficult because of the narrowness of the track. I am really looking forward to racing there for the first time.”

On the summer break…

“It was great to recharge the batteries ahead of the second half of the season. I had a little break in Portugal, which was nice and have enjoyed a few lie-ins mixed in with my training.

I visited the Moto GP on quali day at Silverstone, I’ve had a couple of padel matches, played a bit of tennis and even done a bit of karting but it will be a nice feeling to get back down to business on Friday.”
