Oscar's Belgian GP preview

Just a few days after Oscar’s second consecutive top five finish, F1 heads to OP’s favourite track, Spa-Francorchamps, for the last race before the summer break. Below, we’ve got you covered with everything you need to know…

  • Oscar raced at Spa-Francorchamps in both Formula Renault Eurocup, taking a win in 2019, and during his 2020 title-winning F3 campaign, when he secured two solid points-scoring finishes
  • This is one of nine current F1 venues that Oscar has won at. The others are Silverstone, Hungaroring, Yas Marina Circuit, Red Bull Ring, Circuit de Barcelona–Catalunya, Bahrain International Circuit, Monza and Jeddah
  • The 7.004km lap, with 19 turns (nine left-handers and 10 right), is the longest on the 2023 F1 calendar
  • Spa is one of four current F1 tracks that featured on the championship’s inaugural seven-race schedule in 1950 alongside Silverstone, Monza and Monaco
  • The circuit features a 102m elevation change between its lowest to highest points, the largest of any track that F1 will visit this year

On Spa-Francorchamps…

“This is my favourite track of the season. I love the fast corners and the flat-out sections which allow you to push the car to the limit. It’s an old-school racer’s track and a fantastic test of man and machine.

It’s got the lot: fast corners, long straights, elevation changes and variable weather. They all combine to throw up overtaking opportunities and an exciting race. I can’t wait to take it on in F1 machinery.”

On back-to-back top fives…

“I’ve got good momentum behind me with consecutive finishes in the top five and the car felt great at both Silverstone and Budapest, so we are hoping for more of the same in Belgium. The team’s done a cracking job.

It could have been more in Budapest had it not been for damage to the car which affected my second and third stints, especially after a fantastic start. Bits of misfortunate like that only spur you on more though and I can’t wait to get back to it in the Ardennes.”

On Dilano van ‘t Hoff and Anthoine Hubert…

“Returning to Spa, will give us the opportunity to pay our respects, as a racing community, to Dilano and Anthoine, who both tragically lost their lives at this circuit in recent months and years.

I remember hearing the horrible news about Dilano while we were over in Austria for the GP there. The motorsport world will continue to remember them and their love for racing.”
