Oscar's Hungarian GP preview

Share:

After a race to remember at Silverstone, it’s back to action for Oscar as he heads to Budapest for the first race of the double-header before the summer break. Here we break down the all-important info ahead of Sunday’s race…

  • The Hungaroring has been kind to Oscar in years gone by with a win back in 2019 in Formula Renault Eurocup and back-to-back F3 podiums in 2020
  • Sunday’s race will see 70 laps of the 4.381km circuit with 14 turns (eight right-handers, six left-handers)
  • The distance from the grid to Turn 1 is 618m with a narrow track width of between 10-15m throughout the circuit
  • Oscar will be at full throttle for approximately 44 per cent of the clockwise lap
  • The first Hungarian Grand Prix to take place at the Hungaroring was back in 1986, after construction on the track had started nine months earlier
  • F1 has visited the Budapest circuit, which lies 20km northeast of the city centre, for 38 consecutive seasons

On the circuit…

“It’s a tight and twisty track with plenty of undulation. History has shown that overtaking can be problematic so Saturday’s qualifying will be important.

It’s also usually a good test on the tyres so tyre management as well as car balance will be crucial.”

On the double header…

“We’ve got two more races before the summer break. The first here in Budapest and the second over in Spa-Francorchamps and we want to try and carry momentum into the shutdown period.

It’s a quick turnaround and we’ll be looking to round off the first half of the season in positive fashion.”

On Silverstone…

“It was fantastic to qualify in the top three and collect a big haul of points for the team. They did a tremendous job with the upgrades and a big pat on the back must go to them.

It was the team’s home race and the support we received was phenomenal. The reception we got on track, while arriving into the paddock and on the fan stages will stay with me for a long time. I also liked my new song which I believe has proven pretty catchy.”

On Wimbledon and Goodwood…

“Silverstone wasn’t the only British summer classic for me as I dropped in at Wimbledon to see the Ladies’ and Gentlemen’s quarter-finals. Eventual winner, Carlos Alcaraz, played that day and he was awesome. I was very lucky to catch up with him at Queen’s Club a month ago. Congratulations to him for the way he played in the final.

I also visited Goodwood and got the chance to take on the famous hill climb in James Hunt’s M26. That was pretty special and it was also nice to chat with Sebastian Vettel and Casey Stoner. I had a really good day with the team celebrating McLaren Racing’s 60th anniversary.”
