Silverstone – 52 laps – 5.891km – 18 corners
GP starting position: P3
GP race result: P4 (Medium -> Hard)
Fastest lap: 1:30.850
Key moments:
- Oscar achieves his best-ever F1 finish in fourth, collects 12 world championship points and narrowly misses out on a podium due to the deployment of the full safety car
- The misfortune of pitting for hard tyres, just before the virtual safety car turned to full safety car, allowed Hamilton to move into third
- He had earlier got off to a fantastic start off the grid: retaining P3, managing the tyres and maintaining a solid gap to the Ferrari and Mercedes behind
- After the safety car was called in, he then warmed up his hard tyres quickly enough to hold off the cars behind on soft and medium tyres
- The solid haul of points moves McLaren up into fifth place in the constructors’ championship and Oscar leaps up to 11th in the drivers’ standings
The race through OP’s visor
“I am so happy to be taking home a big haul of points and taking them on merit. The car felt superb and a big thank you goes to all the team for the work and progress that we’ve made. The upgrades worked a treat.Back to News
It’s unlucky that I wasn’t on the podium as Lewis essentially got a free stop but it’s a good position to be in when you’re disappointed with fourth.
We can look ahead now with genuine excitement, and I was just loving being at the pointy end, battling it out.
It’s great that we’ve moved higher in the constructors’ so a fantastic weekend all round.”
