• After the safety car was called in, he then warmed up his hard tyres quickly enough to hold off the cars behind on soft and medium tyres
• The solid haul of points moves McLaren up into fifth place in the constructors’ championship and Oscar leaps up to 11th in the drivers’ standings

“I am so happy to be taking home a big haul of points and taking them on merit. The car felt superb and a big thank you goes to all the team for the work and progress that we’ve made. The upgrades worked a treat.

It’s unlucky that I wasn’t on the podium as Lewis essentially got a free stop but it’s a good position to be in when you’re disappointed with fourth.

We can look ahead now with genuine excitement, and I was just loving being at the pointy end, battling it out.

It’s great that we’ve moved higher in the constructors’ so a fantastic weekend all round.”
