After a weekend off, it’s back to action for Oscar as he travels to the Red Bull Ring for the ninth grand prix of the season. With a sprint race on Saturday too, here’s the key info ahead of the weekend’s two races:
- Oscar has good memories from Spielberg where he won the opening round of the 2020 F3 season on debut, after starting from third
- The 4.318km circuit is one of the shortest on the F1 calendar in terms of lap time and length with just 10 corners (7 right-handers and 3 left-handers)
- The Austrian Grand Prix will feature the second sprint race of the season after Baku and with Belgium, Qatar, USA and Brazil still to come
- There is a 65-metre elevation change over a lap of the track, one of the biggest throughout the whole season
- The Red Bull Ring, originally known as the Österreichring, was built in 1969 and hosted an F1 race for the first time in 1970
- Oscar first drove at the Red Bull Ring back in 2018 as part of his debut Formula Renault Eurocup campaign, scoring back-to-back points finishes
On the Red Bull Ring…
“It’s a stunning place to go motor racing, right in the heart of the Styrian mountains and the races are usually always exciting.
It has some fantastic high-speed corners and the elevation changes make it a real test. Braking zones can also be tricky and the kerbs and gravel traps can punish any mistake.
I have some good memories there from back in 2020 in F3 and further back in 2018, so I’m definitely looking forward to Austria.”
On the sprint race…
“I’m hoping to enjoy this weekend’s sprint race a little more than the last one in Baku, Azerbaijan.
I was feeling more than a little ropey there so I’m looking forward to attacking the sprint and giving it a good crack. Hopefully, there is plenty of action for all the papaya fans.”
On a busy few weeks…
“It’s been a productive period back at the factory working with the engineers and the rest of the team to get us in the best shape possible for this weekend.Back to News
I’ve spent some really productive time at MTC and I can’t wait to get back to business after a weekend off.
I did manage to get to Lord’s in the break to meet the men’s Australian cricket team before their second Ashes test, which was a fascinating experience.
I loved seeing their dedication, commitment and expertise and the guys could not have been more welcoming. I wish them all the best for the series and I will be watching on very closely.”
