The season’s second double-header sees Oscar travel to Barcelona in north-eastern Spain for the 33rd Spanish Grand Prix to take place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Here’s all the key OP stats and facts that you need to know…

  • In his last two race visits to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Oscar has taken silverware in both: third place in Formula Renault Eurocup in 2019 and a commanding victory in F3 in 2020 where he climbed from fifth to first on the opening lap
  • Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix will consist of 66 laps of the 4.657km circuit which features 14 corners (eight right-handers and six left-handers)
  • This year’s race will see the removal of the final sector chicane meaning the lap will finish with two fast corners at T13 and T14
  • The Spanish GP has been held in Barcelona since 1991 (10 years before Oscar was born) when Nigel Mansell and Ayrton Senna tussled for the lead before the Briton came out on top and took the chequered flag
  • The circuit’s facilities were used as part of the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games for road cycling disciplines

On the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya…

“It’s a track that most drivers are very familiar with through testing and racing in the junior formulae. It’s a good all-round track with several elevation changes and a mix of low and high-speed corners.

Qualifying tends to be important here as historically it hasn’t been the best track to overtake on so it will be important to get off on the front foot this weekend.”

On his previous form at the Spanish track…

“I’ve collected some trophies at Barcelona in the past in Formula Renault and F3 and those experiences all help.

Going back to somewhere that you’ve had success at gives you that confidence and a good starting block. Obviously, it will be different in current F1 machinery this time, but I am looking forward to it.”

On scoring points again…

“It was a great feeling to add to my F1 points tally on debut in Monaco. It’s a unique track with very specific challenges that are very testing especially when other variables such as the weather are thrown in.

It was another weekend where I learnt an awful lot and will take a great deal from.”

On the quick turnaround after Monaco…

“I’m loving the back-to-back race weekends as it is great to keep the rhythm and keep building on everything that I’m learning.

I enjoyed the point in Monaco but my mind is already firmly fixed on getting in the mix in Barcelona if we can.”
